Philosophy

The philosophy of Ballet Etc. is to provide excellent dance training for both the serious and recreational dancer. Regardless of individual aspirations, Ballet Etc. strives to build lifelong values in self-esteem, confidence and discipline; body and health awareness, and poise and grace all within a warm, positive learning environment.

Ballet Etc. provides the tools with which to continue the pursuit of technical excellence. We believe that strong ballet training is the foundation for all dance styles and although not required, all students are encouraged to take ballet.

Welcome to Ballet Etc. Dance Institute, Home of the Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre

Ballet Etc. has provided dance education to the Traverse City region since 1996. We offer classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Irish and Pre-School Dance for ages 3 through adult. Ballet Etc. is a competition-free dance studio. That is, we do not promote sports-like competitions nor do we expect parents to shell out hundreds of dollars for expensive costumes, entrance fees and costly travel and hotel expenses.

Our mission is to provide dance education that focuses on technique and performance skills built on a solid foundation. Costumes for our annual spring performance are simple accessories added to the student's required class attire. No costumes need to be purchased. The emphasis is to present a program that demonstrates the technical and artistic progress of our students, who relish a true feeling of accomplishment.

Additional performance opportunities are available with the Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre, open to dancers 9-18 by audition. This non-profit 501c3 company performs an annual full-length ballet production as well as an elementary school outreach-touring program.

Whether a student is interested in a professional career, eager to master new skills or simply enjoys the exercise, consider joining the Ballet Etc. family...we are dedicated to developing a true appreciation for and accomplishment in the art of dance.
